Is it much of a chore to remove the panel that the guages are on. Looks like just a few screws. I am considering either fixing it a tad or replacing it

Slight Yaw. I've waited 42 years to get one of these. Since i was 8. Had a few missed opportunities over the years due to life, military, kids etc. Got myself an 82 which was what I wanted. The last year of the Stingray. The outside is done with a nice set of wheels and tires. All black and a T top. Engine is good. Interior is "coming along". I am fixing all the electrical switches and stuff. It had fake wood over the instruments thus blocking the access screws to each one. So I am peeling all that off and will fix it. Nothing like a Vette.

 

Nice when your dreams come true, A Corvette is what I had always wanted as well. I have been into my gauges and the dash. We moved to a small cabin it has a old garage (shop) the Vette was driven, parked, the next weekend I noticed insulation on the floor mice had been up in the dash. This year over the winter we took measures to keep them out. Most of the time if I take my time the car is EZ to work on, if I rush it, the thing fights me all the way. Rod.

 

I found all the Hex screws to the guages under the fake wood. I mean it does not take a rocket scientist to remove simple allen head screws but I cannot get any of them loose. Am I missing something here. Just want to pull out the amp guage and the clock. The holes for the wrench are not deep at all and just won't turn any of them

 

I also have an 82 .just took my gauge panel out. the hex heads are fake. the whole unit comes out as 1 piece. 2 screws at top above a/c vents 2 on the sides and 2 small hex bolts underneath the console. you have to remove the side boards to get to them. hope this helps

Not wanting to Hi-jack his thread but once he gets the guages out is there an aftermarket source for a conversion or a new speedo to ditch the 85 mph and replace it with a 160mph.. Russ
