All cleaned up and nowhere to go
Well it finally happened to me. Cleaned up the vette dropped the top, ready to cruise.....Pulled the hood latch
Didn't feel right, but it did open. Found no cable connected to the latch. Down on the frame was the cablelug with broken end attached. Boy was I lucky, had enough to reattach.
I added a piece of welding wire to the latch ran it down behind the side vent. I can reach in with something like a coat hanger to fish it out if or when I have my next emergency. Has anyone ever tried this fix?

Hi Flying Low, after the second time that my hood got stuck closed, I gave up and just unscrewed the male hood pins, if you want to lift my hood, just pull it up at the rear! I will not go thru that again! Someone said "Suppose you spin out at 100 mph" Well I figure if that happends, that's the least of my problems. Might put hood pins in someday, but so far so good. PG.
Thats is some good advise. Worked once, in the driveway, after our late nite cruise the wire might need repositioning. Or at least securing.
Tornados all day Sunday kept me from looking, should be clear tonight.
I thought about stealing one of my Grandboys magnets to attach to end of wire, maybe sticking it to the frame?

Like I posted a short while ago, my cable frayed just forward of the handle; and after feeling funny and not returning completely three times in a row, the next time I ended up standing there with the handle in my hand. This thing lasted twenty seven years, which to me, is pretty good service.
After reading the couple of replies under this topic, seems like you guys are saying that this "hood opening system" malfunctions more than it should. Needless to say, when your hood opening system screws up, it sucks, as it's one of the more annoying malfunctions that can happen when it does, when you need to get in there most likely for a good reason.
Is this a "reoccuring problem?" And, are we better off w/ some type of hood release system rather than the factory one?

Hi SCHOON, good to hear from you. No the hood sits there just fine. My problems started when I decided to remove the pins to clean them, after I reinstalled them the hood would not open. Did get it open again and readjusted the pin, then only the left side would open and I had to lift the hood a little and pull the cross cable to open the right side.
Maybe someday I'll find out how to line up those pins, and when I do I'll still put a midget with a wrench under there first, PG.

reattaching the old cable was just a temporary fix, so not to waste a beautiful nights ride. new parts are on my to do list, when I get back from Tenn. (gotta pay the bills)
The crossover cable assy. looks new, I think the release cable must be close to original.
Anyone got any advise on snaking it through, Is it cut to fit?
Thanks,David
