alternator?
i just recently had an alarm installed in my 78 corvette and now i've been having trouble keeping my battery to have enough charge to start my car. It happened at the shop and i bought a new battery cuz the one that was in it was old and not very good. The car worked great for awhile and now tonight i cutt off the engine after moving it to check for a leak and it wouldn't start again.. Then i jumped it and then i let it run... Turned it off.. now its fine.. any ideas? My brother's 73 had the same problem when his alarm was installed.

RE: alternator?
If this problem did not exist before the alarm installation then I would return to the installer to have him check it out. The alarm should not draw electricity sufficent to drain the battery. If the battery was replaced then it is not the battery. No matter how well your alternator charges the battery if you have a constant draw from the alarm system it will kill the battery. Properly installed systems should not draw enough to do that.
When ever you have a new peoblem always look at what was recently repaired or replaced.

RE: alternator?
One suggestion. Have the altenator output checked. It sounds as if you are running on the battery. After a time all the charge is drained. No start. The earlier suggestion is correct. It sounds as if the alarm installation is the problem. However, if the altenator checks good the installor has one less thing to be concerned about.

RE: alternator?
i believe it was the alarm. Since the car is so old they had to change all the signals to analog and my guess is since it has a remote starter it wouldn't allow the car to start. It would only start by using the remote starter on my clicker. its gone now. thank god. turned right over as soon as the alarm was taken off. He tried telling me i had a starter problem.
