Default brake master cylinder

I need to replace the master cylinder on my 74 vette. The cylinder is pitted and bypassing. Do I need to bleed the brakes when I change the master cylinder or can I just replace it and go. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Pressure bleeding is the best way. Having a helper push on the brake pedal is the second best way. Vacuum bleeding is, in my estimation, not a good way because it tends to suck air past the seals and you never get all the air out of the system.
