Hi Toby and welcome to the forum, you'll find lots of help here.
You need several books to help you understand how to repair things, they are:
An owners manual-from catalogs.
A 71 Assembly Manual, just pictures of how the parts go together, (catalogs).
A 71 Service Manual. (catalog)
A 1966-1982 Shop Manual-www.motorbooks.com
And a Haynes Repair Manual-at any parts store.
These books have different ways of explaning the way to fix something, sometimes one book I can understand better than the other.
Catalog sites:
www.corvetteamerica.com
www.corvettecentral.com
www.mamotorworks.com
www.corvettepartsdepot.com
www.paddockparts.com
www.volvette.com
Buy a copy of Corvette Chevy Trader and circle the reply card, you'll get about 100 catalogs.
You have a rare car, 5299 Convert's, so what motor, trany & yada yada.
Small world, I'm just a few miles from Lake Wylie in NC.
Enjoy your new ride, PG.

I have always gone thru Mid America Corvette. Fast service and great tech support. I bought my diagrams (74 and 86)at a Corvette swapmeet, brand new. Good Luck.

Hey Toby, that is a nice find. If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for it? Wish I could find one like that I could rescue.

Good luck with your new project.

Looks like a diamond in the rough. Great find. Keep us posted on your restore efforts.

Starship: Are you sure that's not "the" fuel tank? Maybe placed higher for better weight distribution?
Or more downforce at speed?

Well,
I actually bought 3 Corvettes in a package deal. This 71 convertible (which is a keeper), a 73 T-Top 350 (fairly complete) and a 78 parts pile.
I'll sell the 73 and the 78 parts pile as soon as in 3 weeks. I have to clean and check out the 73 first before I can list any details.
rshiver: Purchase price? Well, It depends on how much I can sell the 73 and 78 for...Check your PM!

It really is a nice ride. Not only is the car straight (not banged up) but it's all there, which exactly what one wants when it comes to restoring. Good Luck! You'll have a beauty in no time.
