The 55mph limit was "supposed" to save on fuel.
( .....and people fell for it. )
Ya right, tachin' over 4g's to do 55?

Very good point, C3. I suppose the "vette in these yearswas built to be in the power ban at highway speed. I have to say that driving my 'Vette on the highway here in Texas, where everyone is going 80 and 85with the 70 speed limit, I'm beating my motor to keep up. I was saying in my last post that the 2004R is a good replacement for the turbo 350 as it's the exact same length as the short shaft 350 turbo and bolts right up to the small block Chevy engine. !st. and 2nd. gear is actually closer than the 700R. There are 2 companies I've found who sell the modified version of the 2004R: http://www.cpttransmission.com and http://www.gearstartransmission.com . You can also buy the high performance parts from, I know for sure, CPT, and probably Gearstar. CPT article is in the Car Craft, April 2005 and Gearstar in Classic Trucks, December, 2005.
I'm going for one of these when my turbo 350 gets tired.

I am glad that I am not the only C3 owner who feels that his car is geared too low. When I had the 3:70's in it I could barely tolerate driving at highway speeds. The 3:24's are better, but I am going for 2:73'snext, as soon as finances allow for rebuilding and installing another rear.
