Confussed over tire sizes, ect.?
Here's some preliminary info: http://www.corvettelegends.com/l88.htm Go to the ZL-1 and check out the picture of the white near the bottom.
From another forum: "The 1968-1969 L-88's
Other modifications to the 1968 Corvette L-88 included a cold air intake hood, while the 1969 Corvette L-88’s added fender flares that came in the trunk rather than installed on the car. The four-wheel disc brakes were heavy-duty, along with a Muncie M-22 "Rock-Crusher" 4-speed transmission, heavy-duty suspension, and positraction. Radio and air conditioning were not available, but there was a heater/defroster."
"[Available for purchase, not factory installed, shipped in the car, were Kustom tubular headers and body fender flares.]"
Here's another one: http://www.showcars-bodyparts.com/corvette.html There's some pics at the bottom. http://www.showcars-bodyparts.com/vette68-82page37.JPG
Here's the piece de resistance: http://www.vetteweb.com/events/vemp_.../photo_19.html Those are what I remember them looking like.
Here's some dude's '73 with what he claims are L-88 flares: http://www.cardomain.com/member_page...994_3_full.jpg

Here's some for sale: http://www.mamotorworks.com/corvette-1-41-3484.html They might not be exact copies tho.
Here's one with my favorite wheels
: http://proteamcorvette.com/cars/156Z.htm Can't believe they're trying to sell this with those wheels. But then I wouldn't touch this place with a ten foot pole. Heard too many bad stories and I remember T. Michaelis from the seventies. [

When I can lay my hands on my old Chevy Performance Parts Catalog, maybe I can get you some more info.
Happy Easter.

Hi 73shark, you are a true Corvette "Enthusiast" and the links that you posted are so informative. I think it was people like Guldstrand, Leslie and Yenko that put Corvette on the map. How lucky would it be to have Zora himself look over your sholder to give advise.
I only looked over the Ledgens post, I'll spend time on the others in the next few days. Thanks again for the true history of the Vette and sharing the information.
Happy Easter, PG.

Hey there 73shark,I really appreciate that you took the time to gather up all this info. Those are some great links!
This Vette has my preferred design, I like the smooth transition from the fenders to the flares.

The rear flares on this Vette are too wide for the tires, looks like the flares were an after thought. Maybe because they are so much wider than the ones on the previous Vette.Needs more rubber.

...and yes, I like the Vector wheels too. [sm=icon_rock.gif]

No problem. Was amazed at how much info was out there. I found my Chevy High Performance catalog and it shows a P/N for 2" and 4" flares but the picture shows that they start at the bond line which probably makes them more expensive but easier to put on. I'm guessing that the L-88 ones were probably in the 2" range. I'm guessing that the ones in the pictures are probably closer to 4".
If you want, I can post the P/Ns if you want to see if they're still available.

Bare in mind that thisedition of Chevrolet Poweris circa 1976 (has a picture on a IMSA GT Monza on the back cover and how to set up your twin cam Cosworth Vega.). Those were the days but I digress. There's two sets of "fender extensions" listed. One says for tire clearance and the other says for tire clearance for racing. I'm guessing that the racing ones probably stick out farther.
First ones are P/N 3958681 thru 3958684. The second set (racing) are P/N 3965777, 3965778, 3965781, & 3965781.
I checked a GM Parts site and the numbers don't check which wasn't a surprise since they change P/Ns all the time. Best bet to see if anything is still available thru Chevy is to have your friendly parts man check the numbers and see if there's any updated info. If not, then you're going to have to go aftermarket. I'm sure there's something available out there.
