Fuel Tank Drop

Fuel Tank Drop
Finished my suspension rebuild. Bled the brakes and starter her up. Been sitting a while and have developed a slight fuelleak at the right rear where the steel fuel lines connect to therubber lines. Anyone ever replaced the rubber lines without dropping the tank? How much trouble can I get into dropping the tank to access these lines. All input/advice would be welcomed.

RE: Fuel Tank Drop
This is right out of my manual.
1. remove batery ground cable
2. drain fuel tank
3. raise vehicle
4. remove spare tire from carrier
5. remove tire carrier bolted attachments and remove carrier
6. lossen "u" clamps and separate exhaust systems at transmission support
7. remove rear muffler brakets at frame and slide exhaust system rearward
8. remove fuel tank support bolts
9. lower fuel tank, rotating toward front of vehicle, and disconnect fuel lines and electrical connections.
Hope this helps.

RE: Fuel Tank Drop
Thanks C3. Thatspelled it out for me. The rubber hose connections on top of the frame rails are a bit of a reach to get to though. I got my new hoses from Dr. Rebuild and hope getting them on won't require an additional joint in my forearm. Now, while the tanks out I want to correct my inconsistentfuel gauge problem. The sending unit looks OK but never registers accurately for the last half of a tank of gas. Can this be dry tested by just hooking the 2 wires back up? Probably, just haven't tried yet.Maybe my problem is in the gauge itself. These sending units run over $200, don't want to buy one unless I have to.My gas tank has a rubber bladder. What years where these used on? No trace of a tank sticker. Oh well.

Have a look here concerning your sending unit. Lots of good info. Cheers
