Good automatic transmission?
Hi all,
As some of you may know, I currently have a 76 with the numbers matching 350 and the stock transmission. I was wondering if there are any better tranny's out there that can give me better perforamnce but still handle power? Are there any 5 speeds out there? I was thinking about getting my engine stroked or maybe even dropping in a 454, so I would like it to be future proof so to speak, if I do get a new engine down the line.

Hi Dj Envy, what do you want to do with your car? You can get a mega 572 BB and go to the track only or you can get a small block with about 400 HP and have a steet car that you can drive and have lots of fun with, enjoy your ride and figure out what you want it to be as an end result. PG.
Oh, sorry. Forgot to mention this is my daily driver. 454's that have some work on them are easier to find around here than a 572 unforunately.
And thanks to 73Shark for giving me the idea of electric cutouts. I will be getting a new set of Hooker Headers as well as E-cutouts around Late May or Early June

Just got my price quote from Keisler for the 4 speed..
Dang. Nearly 4 grand. That is the "Corvette Automatic Overdrive Stage 3 (650 LB-FT)"
I was hoping it'd be somewhere around $1500-$2000.
Oh well. Guess I'll just save longer lol.

Alright, thanks. I was just wondering if putting in a new engine would lower the value of my car? I mean, I'll keep the old one, but would putting in a BB lower it's value? Same goes for fender flares.. I was hoping to put fender flares and 17x12" rally's along with a new engine and tranny eventually.
Hi again Dj Envy, if you want to feel good about the value of your Vette go to www.nadaguides.com and click on classic cars.
You paid what you paid for your car because you thought it was a fair price, when you sell it someone will pay you a fair price.
For me I could care less about matching numbers, I want to drive and enjoy my Vette. Many of us have changed the carb, manifold, cam, dist and put headers, wider tires and changed the color. If you want a 454 then go for it, if you want a 4 or 5 or 6 speed transmission then go for it. My car is not going to NCRS and I am happy to drive it everywhere. For those who want a trophy to sit in there garage untill they trailer it to a show, God Bless Them, and the money they spent on it, Look at it this way you bought the Vette to enjoy, so enjoy it, don't worry if what you do will affect the value. PG.

Thanks for that. I wish my dad could see it that way.. He has an '84that he purchased brand newwith all available options.. It has less than 1,000 miles on it.Doesn't ever drive it. It's a show car, that's never been to any shows. lol.
Thing that scares me about modifying the car.. It'll look great and all afterwards, but I see each C3 as a piece of history. In the back of my head I'm just afraid of a lingering thought that I changed something great. I'll have to see what happens..
