Default heater hoses

I have a red hose that comes off the thermostat that has a shut off valve, not sure what it is for but I have to assume that it is to cut off heat to the heater core that supplies heat to the cabin. The red hose goes over to a control valve on the passenger side of the engine compartment and it has several hoses coming off it. On the top of this valve is a small black hose that is cut off and just hangs in the engine compartment. Does anyone know what this is for? My camera is charging so I will take pictures later.

Your right!
Someone added the valve to shut down the heat to the core for summer use.

SCHOON,
Thanks, I am going to shut that valve then because I have some serious heat coming inside the car. Do you know what that little black hose is that comes off the top of the valve, I assume that it should be hooked up to some vacuum.

If your talking about the small black vacuum line, it goes thru the fire wall and connects to the thumbwheel on the center console. I think no vacuum = no heat but I'll check it out for sure if you need that info, PG.

I shut the valve on the red hose that comes from the thermostat to the heater core and no more heat to the inside of the car! No more hot feet and legs.
Thanks alot.
