Ignition Switch Holder

Default Ignition Switch Holder

Think its called keeper ring, the thing that holds the key to turn the engine on! LOL! it Was replace but the metal notch that holds it in the steering colum is wore down any suggestions for repair?

Welcome chas! What year is your vette? Do you have any pics? As far as your question I'm not sure what you are describing. Are you talking about the igniton lock?

sorry, Thought I put all that in my sig! LOL!

its a 78 Vette, 3 speed auto. The silver shiny thing you put to the key into to turn the engine, in the attached image its the this piece it falls out due to the metal notch being wore down.

It sounds like the inside of the steering column is worn out where the lock cylinder goes in. It is made of light cast metal, I have no idea how to restore it once it wears out. Maybe drill a small hole through from the outside and insert a pop rivet or a metal pin as a substitute "keeper" ? Can you post a picture of the damaged /worn column?
