Here's a problem I have with my 80,Lots of play in the steering wheel? I've notice that everything is tight from the steering wheel down to the pitman arm ( no Lash )but looks like a lot of play in the rod from the control valve. is there any adjustments on the valve itselfto help this? It's most likely time to rebuild as both the cylinder and valve are wet but not soaked, I don't think the seals are totally gone yet.
I have replaced the tie rod ends, ball joints and bearings already.Any sugestions
Hi Batesy80, If you turn on the motor you will see that there is little or no slack in the ball stud, if you check it with the motor off there is about 1/8 inch of play, check out http://wiki.corvettefaq.com and go to Jim Shea Steering Articles. PG

I had my wife move the wheel back and forth to see what was moving and what was not, I made a slight adjustment in the steering box , but most of the play was at the ball stud on the control valve. The idler arm was moving with the wheel, I had no grease fitting on the valve and could not find the right threaded zirk to put in , but got some in there with just holding a fitting in place this did help out with the slop, will need to rebuild the valve soon though. Shark is right it can lock up if the gear is too tight, Hope this help you out.
