Need Help with a '70 Frame
Hello,
I'm new to this site and I'm here searching for some help with our restoration. My father and I bought a 1970 Corvette 350/350 about a year ago and immediately started on it's restoration.
The body and frame appeared to be in decent shape with only minor surface rust visible at the start. We Originally planned on completing the restoration in a frame on approach.
While replacing the entire front suspension and steering components we attended to any rust on the frame and painted everything with Chassis black.
After removing the engine and tranny for rebuilding we removed all the rear suspension. After doing this we decided that it seemed easy enough to remove the body to get a more complete repair to the frame done. After removing the body we noticed that the rear section of the frame where it ends just in front of the rear wheels was rotting. We removed all remaining parts from the frame and then sent the frame to a friend to weld in the replacement rail sections.
We then found out that the rear section of the frame was rotting from the inside out. Leaving an unsturdy frame to do any welding to. It was suggested that we search junkyards and online for a frame or a vehicle with front damage that we could salvage the frame from. Unforunately as good as that plan sounded, it has been impossible to find anything worth using at all no less local.
I have belonged to several forums for my previous cars and my motorcycles so I thought I would search here to broaden my resources on my search for a frame.
If anyone has any leads on a frame or a vehicle that I could use the rear section of the frame from please post here or send me a PM on this site.
If you need any additional information regarding the vehicle, please feel free to ask.
Thanks in advance for your help,
Patrick
