Default Newbie from South Dakota

Hello all. I am the new owner of 1980 Corvette L48 , a driveable project car. My wife calls it my midlife crisis . I am sure I will have alot of questions (probably alot of dumb ones ) on repairs, modifications and restoration and this looks like a good place where I can get some answers and have some fun shooting the crap. Some of the projects for this winter will include: repairing the power windows (slow up and down), power locks (don' work at all), slow opening headlights, wipers (only one speed, slow), heater/ac fan motor (only runs with switch on high speed and is very noisy), reverse lights (come on when shifting from park to reverse but go off as soon as it is in reverse), dash and center cluster warning lights (do not work), dome light (doesn't work), horn (doesn't work), replacing 'u'-joints. That's it for now but I am sure something else will pop up. Thanks in advance for all the advice that is sure to come. PJ_80shark [/align]

Welcome to the Corvette Forum. Re: heater blower speed - Since the lower speeds are controlled by voltage dropping resistors located in the duct work, I would suspect the wiring going there or else the switch itself.

The noise is probably due to dry bearings. They are "permanently" lubed but can be re-lubed by drilling a small hole in each end of the housing about 1/4" from the shaft. This allows access to the felt washer that originally contained the lube. I use a syringe to re-oil w/ a lite oil like 3 in 1. You'll have to take the blower wheel off to do that end. A little oil on the shaft will help while the oil in the felt washer permeates the bronze bearing. This is all predicated on your year being the same as my '73. Of course you can always replace the motor.

Best investment you can make is a Chev Corvette Service Manual and also an Assembly Manual.

Have fun.
