Welcome to the forum. Educate yourself with all of the Corvette literature you can find. I'm not talking about coffee table books but ones like the Corvette Black Book. There are date codes, casting numbers, VIN stampings etc, on various components. One on the easiest to find is the VIN stamping on the block deck on the right (psgr side) front corner.

Be aware that the '68 had several model year specific items which make restoration a little more expensive than later Sharks.

Thanks for the reply, I've had the 68 for 8 years and 14 different vettes. Always love the shark. I just had forgotten where to look for the match. When I bought the L-36 I verified the numbers match. Just had one of my senior moments. I am selling the 68 to a guy who wants to be assured of the match. I am done working and restoring vettes. After the sale I have my eye on a C-4. The lowest maintenance that I can find. Is there other sites besides mortec that talk about the match?

"fraid I can't help you on that. But it's not just one number that matches. Best of luck.

There is another book out there that is actually more helpful than the Black Book for numbers documentation. It is called Chevrolet by the Numbers 1965-1969. It is written by Alan Colvin, and available through Borders or Bentley Publishers. I have an odd 1973 LS4 that came from the factory with an original all numbers matching 4 bolt main block. Colvin helped me to document this as one of 16 that left the factory in '73 with this engine as a late production car, built after all the 2 bolt blocks had been used up in the normal production run. His books are broken up in year groupings to make it easier to follow. It will cost about $30... but the information inside is well worth it. Good luck.

Thanks Wedge, I will look for the book. Are we able to post sig pics? Little off topic. I put 7 to 1 roller rockers on , 750 Edelbrock,DUI ignition system, radical cam, then went front to back upgrade. I have done stock, but this was my first 427.

Thats a computer question isn't it.... hell I'm lucky if I can hit the right button to submit a post! But it sounds as though you've put some time into the motor... did you have to change out your rocker covers to fit those 7:1 rockers? I considered adding those to mine... but the boxes aren't tall enough under the brake booster, a real tight fit. 7:1 and a good cam will get you good, rather cheap hp numbers though. With everything else you did you must have some good numbers. Did you say you had this one sold? Get what you wanted? I am curious as to where the dollar figures are going on C3's with $5 gas on the horizon... and 6 mpg...

Rocker Covers stayed the same, Off the line numbers whew man the 68 is fast. We did a laymens 0-60 and came up with 4.0 seconds with no wind. That time is subject to a watch and the watch wearer.I think that smiley is correct? The rear end is 3:55 to 1 so the 68 jumps. Almost sold, Good $'s. Don't have to play tonight ,so I am going to hear some good music from the audience standpoint. Finally Later

Have had my 68 since new. Looks like yours and have vinyl top also. Can't help with numbers . My question to you is do you have factory air, and if so what are the connections like to compressor. Mine are like clamps in 67 and not the type they show for 68 in all catalogs.
