Just that your temperatures were so high, I thought maybe you were in Mid-East.

My vet runs at 200 all year long and never had a problem.
I use a 160 thermostat
So why do you think you have a problem?

Hi jarrah, lets try to clear this up. If 12* C = 53* F, and 17* C = 62 F and that gives you a headache from heat than you don't want to come to the USA. We measuer our temps in the shade so it's 20* hotter in the sun. There are many days in the summer that I work outside when it's 100* F and it has not killed me yet!
My Vette runs just fine in the hotest of days, do you have a chin spoiler, and air dam on top of the radiator to direct the flow of air thru the radiator rather than around it? Good seals on the sides of the rad, a boiled out rad so that it cools to the extent that it was designed? A proper pressure radiator cap? Shroud seals so that the air is ducted thru the rad and not around it? A proper and functioning rad fan? A properly working fan clutch? The proper fan? Is the area in front of the rad unrestricted? How old is the motor, do you need to have the passage ways boiled out? Are you using the correct ratio of anti freeze to water? These are just a few things to check, once these are in order you can drive all day with no problems. PG.

Hi PG,
i don't have overheating problems now but I expect them in summer ( south Italy=very hot). Bought a 160°F thermostat ( better to have it if needed). But I still don't understand how the fan's clutch works. I supposed it's started by a temperature control switch , but where's this switch and how to check if it works. I would like to have no surprises when hot weather will arrive. thanks

Hi again aldous, A 160* thermostat will work fine buta 180* will burn offmore contiminates. A 180* stat will not let your motor run a less that 180*, but a 160* stat will let your motor run all day at 160* if the temps are cool enough. That being said, lets get to your question, the clutch fan. When you start your car the clutch fan will run at 1 to 1, once the motor is at operatering temps the fan will slip and the air flowing thru the rad will cool your motor. The fan will have little or no efect on the flow thru the rad at highway speeds. If you have the proper chin spoiler and the rad is sealed correctly that is what controls the max temp in your motor. Does this clear vthis up for you? PG.

i live in south florida and im running a stock set up with a 160* thermostat, rebuilt waterpump and an old radiator and she rarely sees 180* during the hottest of days. another thing to check for is debri in the radiator fins.

A quick test to see if the fan clutch is working:
Open the hood, start the car then shut it off, if the clutch is working the fan will stop spining in 1 or 2 seconds. PG.

A ton of good stuff about keeping cool.

If you have the radiator out for a boil out, might as well have them rod it out at the same time to ensure that all of the tubes are open.
