Question about 81...

RE: Question about 81...
I have had an '81 almost seven years now and have had no problems to speak of. The car only had 24,000 original miles when we got it now has around 40,000. They are great cars that you can still get reasonably cheap. They lack a little power but with certain bolt ons it is easily brought to life. Be sure to check the front and rear wheel bearings on it before you buy though. The rears are a pain to service especially for a first timer on the independent suspension.

RE: Question about 81...
My 81 has just over 219k miles. I just put about $800 in front suspension from fastcorvette.com, replaced the
(original!) rochester carb with a Holley street avenger, and killed the emissions stuff (25 yrs old means that I
am exempt from emissions testing). The previous owner replaced the interior carpet and seat skins. I bought
a new tach from Ebay, as mine was reading double for some strange reason.
Other than that work, this car has been a "gas and go" for a looooong time. Like any 25 year old car, check
compression, make sure a reputable mechanic gives it a good look for you, and don't skimp on the upkeep.
If you treat it right, it will treat you right.
