Default Side pipes on 78 big block

I am putting a big block 454 with Merlin heads in my 78 vette. The sales rep at Ecklers said the headers and pipes were made for stock engines. what headers and side pipes can i buy that will fit? also, what size pipes and what coating is preferable for street use? thanks

I just put Hooker SS side pipes on my 74.
No worry about rust and they look great.
You might need to get a shop to fabricate a special pair of headers for you.

Is the exhaust port configuration different on the Merlin heads?

Not that i can tell, a rep at summit racing said the hooker header hok2222-1hkr would fit so i think i will go with that.

You might give Hooker a call. I'd definitely investigate the "why" before I went custom.

I called hooker via holley and they said it would fit if it did not have angled plugs, which it doesn't. Thanks for posts, by the way, very confusing reading on big block coil springs. I think I need 550 lb springs, any thoughts?

Check w/ Vette Brakes on the springs. 550 does sound about right for a BBC.

Glad the headers will work for you. Assume you're getting the "nest of snakes" style.
