Default Starter ground wire

hey all my AIM shows a ground wire from the starter to the chassis. on my 79 bubba connected the wire from chassis to motor mount. removing and replacing the wire to its correct location is next on the to do list. my question is would the ground wire connected incorrectly cause any starting problems.

Ground is ground the world around, that's what I was taught. As long as it is a "good" ground it should not be a problem.

On my 72 it goes to the motor mount frame. There is a hole for it right under the motor mount. Bubba was close! And I'm sure it does the same thing.

The ground wire doesn't have to go to the starter, the starter is grounded by way of metal to metal contact as it is bolted to the block. The starter bolts and the mounting pad provide the necessary ground. As long as you have a good heavy ground from the block or block side of the motor mount to the frame rail, you will be fine.

My .02,......
As long as you have tight connections, you shouldn't have any probs.
Concider though, you have the connection from the frame, to the motor mount, engine to bell, and then to the starter. Any one of these points can break connection if loose in any way. I suggest that you move that ground strap directly to the starterand frame. Now you just have the one connection, a direct route.
