I suspect that this piece is confusing me because it's actually of another part of the car?

Doesn't look familiar to me.

 

it's one of the thousands of bits from a full corvette rebuild. The steering column is now fully reassembled and working fine, cheers.

did it go in the hexagonal hole in the plastic directional assembly frame?
