My ’80 vette has developed an annoying squeak (sounds like an ‘eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee’ tone). It only happens when the car has reached normal operating temperature and the steering wheel is turned any bit to the right while moving (any speed). It does not happen when the car is at a stand still or when the engine is cold or when turning to the left. The sound seems to come from under the hood on the passenger side area. My mechanic, who happens to be pretty good, could hear it but could not pinpoint the problem and suggested I wait until the sound becomes worse. Any ideas on what this might be?

it sounds like either a rack issue, or a dry ball joint somewhere...

 

it happened to be the pwoer steering control valve
