Tail of the Dragon

RE: Tail of the Dragon
This "Dragon" is about 1100 miles from me. Just checked it out on the map. The next time I go over to the east coast, this coming summer, I'll drive that road, as we take I40 into N.C. I couldn't make it solo in the 'Vette anytime soon. Even through I40 through Ashville and Hickory, N.C. aren't the "Dragon," the mountains through there are something-else to say the least with the run-away truck ramps and the one higher spot where it's a tunnel through the rock. It really is easy to getrolling alittle too quicklyand at 70 plus mph in a family car, it's easy to get going too fast before you realize it and have to ride your brakes alittle too far. I40 changes greatly at the end of Tennessee, just before N.C. going east and just before going north on 81.

I made that trip through the mountains many times. My first wife was from Rokingham, NC. we whet to see her mom about a billoion times. Fun trip at any speed. Been all over them thar mountains. Love the views. Took a chopper ride in Cherokee, $10.00 per. for 30 minutes air time. That was a blast. Cheers
Stop in Dickson for a pit stop on your way TJ.

Run Away truck ramps!
I'm a local truck driver now (Water Truck) but I used to drive a new car carrier and I remember the Run Away Truch Ramps over there and I always prayed "Don't make me use them",
Your right, that is a fun ride in any vehicle, but best in a Vette! PG.

RE: Run Away truck ramps!
I made it in a 4runner a bunch of times. two wheelin' in some turns. By my self of course. Kinda stupid in that top heavy box but still fun. My little Z car handled them well. haven't taken the vette yet, but looks like I might get a chance with the meet n greet. Cheers

RE: Run Away truck ramps!
Just got home from a quick business trip around Knoxville. A friend was going to take me down to the Tail,He is in a BMW club that plays there. A cold front moved in on top of us, could hardly see the road, Only got close enough to smell dragon farts.(this time) I go up there every couple of weeks, the weather has got to get better soon.
