Default Tires Choices ?

Hello All,
I've recently purchased my first Vette. It's an 81 with 46,000 miles. The previous owner had it for 10 years and only put 5,000 miles on it.
(That is a good thing for me!) However, the BFG T/A's on it are 255/60R-15's and have plenty of tread left, but are over 10 years old with cracks between the tread and are not very smooth at hightway speed. I've done some research and it looks like there are only two manufacturers that are building this size.
The BFG T/A is still available and Goodyear has the GT II an Nascar, which appear to be the same tire.
I"m not a big fan of BFG as I've had premature ply seperation before and I'm not too excited about the Goodyear offerings.
I am a Goodyear fan and love the Triple Treads I have on my Subaru.
Can any of you tell me if there are any other options to consider for tire replacement.
While this 190 HP Vette is not a big Hot Rod, but I do want quality rubber on it.
Thanks,
Dehn

Hi Dehn, I bought my 74 T-Top over 5 years ago, it came with new 235-70 r15's " Monarch " brand tires on all 4 wheels, I'd never heard of that brand before, I got a nail in the sidewall so I searched around, I found the same brand thru Goodyear, so I put the back tires on the front and put new " Monarch 255-60 r15's on the rear. I now have put on about 25,000 miles on the original 70's and about 5,000 miles on the rear ones. The tires have raised white letters that say ROAD HUGGER RADIAL G/T. The treadware is 440 - the traction is A and temperature rating is B. When you look at my tires the threads still look new. Hope this helps, Pete.

Hi Dehn
Take at look at some Yokohama AVID S/T's. They are a pretty good tire and the tread design looks good also. I bought some for my 72 and will be trying them out as soon as I complete my restoration.

I have a set of 255/60R 15 Cooper Cobra's for the 69. I had a set of them on my 93 Z28 (different size of course). They are great tires. I do like the tread pattern on the BFG's a little better but the Coopers are just fine

Personally, I like Cooper tires. I've gotten 60,000 miles off sets I had on a S-10 Blazer. I have Coopers on all my cars. They were the first thing I put on the "Starship" after I got her. She handles GREAT!
