Default Transmission Swap

I have a 1975with a automatic in it and would like to put a 4 or 5 speed into it. I have found kits that will do the job, but are more than I need. I will not be racing the car and don't need a high performance kit. Is there a OEM quality kit anywhere? My other option is to put a used transmission in to the car. Can I pull parts (bellhousing, transmission, pedels, flywheel)out of a late model Camaro? Will they bolt up to a 350 engine? Is there a web site that matches parts. I realize that the shift will need to be offset to fit as original, but there a kits for that. Any help will be appreciated.

Clutch and brake pedal assemblies are available used through junk yards or ebay. I do not think that a Camaro pedal setup will work, though you can make anything work if you have enough time and money.... The newer Camaro's use a hydraulic clutch, our Corvettes do not, so some modifications may be needed there.

The Muncie transmission was available from the factory. I have a Richmond 5 speed in my 1979 that I will be selling in a few weeks, it is completely rebuilt and shifts smooth. The Tremec is also another popular manual transmission for our Corvettes. Let me know if you are interested in my 5 speed.....

Yes, I would be interested in the 5 speed. From your anwser I gather that I am correct in assuming thataCamarobellhousing will blot up to my 75 block and more importantly fit into the tunnel. I like hydraulic clutches, I have converted my IROC to one.

Welcome to the Corvette Forum.

If you decide to pass on DV8's Richmond, Keisler Engineering has Tremec 5 & 6 speeds w/ the right driveshaft.

I've posted this before, but the 2004R is rebuilt by several different aftermarket companies now and can withstand over 800 hp w/ the best build up. Alot of people are successfullyusing these trannys f/ drag racing. There are afew different models from street to full race. It's a 4 speed automatic and the gearing is alittle better (closer 1st. and 2nd. as they were originally built f/ lower HP/torque engines) than the 700R. The perfect part of this transmission is that it's the "exact same length" as the TH350 and bolts right up to all the stock components. No need f/ drive shaft change, etc. These trannys are very reasonably priced from the aftermarket companies and have been used in many street rod set-ups for years now.
I have two different articles on the tranny if you want to check it out. Just PM me. When I ever change my TH350 out, I'm going w/ the 2004R for sure.

Didn't know that there were distinct "old" and "new" models. Unless like the 700, the newer ones are "E" f/ electronic.

Sorry, I didn't mean old vs new. I meant the difference in the nomenclature: 2004R vs 200R4.

Sorry f/ the late reply. I may have it backward, or you may. But I'm sure it's the same item. I've read a number of articles, after reading about the companies who build these them, about street rods using this tranny and quite afew Chevies where the TH350 was replaced, and I really like the fact that there's no changingparts or mods to make to the vehicle.
