Default What did you miss?

I am possibly buying a 1968 corvette PROJECT and was wondering what were some of the things that you guys missed when you bought your corvette or other cars? For example i have a 1976 corvette that when buying i never looked under the flour mates to see the holes in the carpet and surface rust on the floor pan; which later on caused problems down the road.

Also if anyone knows anything about the 68 that a should look for or be aware before buying it would be very appreciated.

Thanks,

Kevin

As with any mid-year or Shark, be sure to thoroughly check the frame for serious rust, especially in front of the rear kickup over the axle. Also the A-pillar area by the windshield.

The door panels were one year specific as were the exterior door handles. Good luck. I'm sure others have some other things to look for.

Most everything can be fixed with a little time, with the body on the frame. That said, really check out the frame for rust with an icepick. That can singlehandedly be the most costly to fix. If you find rot, I would walk away unless you happen to have a Paul Newman frame in the garage. Check the alignment down the sides, make sure the tires are equal (you know... left front 2" further out past the fender than the right...) and especially how the rear tires fit in the openings front to rear. That can tell you if it has been hit and put back together right or wrong, whether it will track correctly or veer towards the gutter.
Good luck!

I think you right Wedge, time and money! A 68 would be a realy cool car to own. Is it a 327 or a 427? Since it cost me double what I thought it would to put my 74 back together and it's worth half that, what will it cost to restore a 68 since a lot of parts are 1 year only, and could it be sold for more?
corvette1976, I like you logic and signature, If your going to be your 1st or second car, make it a good one!

Just remember, it's only money! PG.

Way too much $, check Craigslist for many better deals. I paid $4000 for a 75 that runs and is almost complete.
