Yeah but hp is probably the cheapest thing to do on a resto.

 

If you just want more HP there are plenty of engines and plenty of friends here that will tell you what they did to go faster.
A 69 may have ahigherorigional HP rating but you can buy or build better today.
The car you pictured is a basket case! You would need a great deal of mechanical ability just to put it back together, than you would need body work experience, looks like the tail is not origional and who knows about the front fenders and doors. your 76 will cost a lot more than you think when you start buying replacement parts, the 68 has many one year only parts that will cost even more.
What about the frame? What if the 327 is shot?
Than a new interior, weatherstrip and how much is a new top and can you handle that? Than how about paint?
My guess is more than 2 years of effort and more than $100,000 to bring that car to life and what would it sell for?
Enjoy your 76, drive it around for 6 months and make 2 lists. A list of what it needs and a wish list, than go from there.

I agree. Keep on looking, f/ another. You can get a pretty good one ie; in Houston at an auction for 4 to 4500.

The extent to which the suspention had deteriated. Wasn't a big deal, I was gonna replace it all anyway, and did.

Try this number on for size,....
$4,500 for the comlete suspension and 3rd member replacement. Now, I had to put it together.
The major cost would be for labor. As much as twice the cost of parts.
Do ya really want to drop 100gs in a 60g car?
Unless ya do dang near everything yourself, that car will cost ya a bundle. But then, any restore can be very pricey.

If ya got the bucks and the know how, and this is the car you really gotta have, and can't wait to restore, then go for it. Just don't expect to be featured on 'Barret-Jackson' for anything close, towhat you'll have in her.
