Windshield replacement hunting in St Louis / St Charles
I'm restoring my uncle's in 1981 Corvette basic most of the work is done but I am looking for a windshield should be replaced. While it's at the shop all of you so I can get it inspected and get ready for the next step which is the interior in the paint job. I've reached out numerous times you can't find anyone to put in a windshield or with a windshield. Anyone has any suggestions how gladly take them
Welcome to the forums. I have always had good luck with Safelite glass co. There are about 10 glass shops in your area. Here in Idaho they will come to your car or truck and replace your glass. Considering weather they will only work inside a garage or shop, right now I'm sure. that could be the issue right now. You can replace it yourself with a helper, You would want to warm it up to 60 or 65 degrees before removing the glass. Like Harley said get the 3/8in butyl tape some people call it rope and medium size guitar string with two maybe 3/4in x4in dowels for handles. Push the string thru eather top corners, install the handles on each end of the string with the handles on both sides of the glass then pull the handles together like you are cutting through cheese the warmer the old seal the better, You might need a hot air gun or a good hair dryer to make it easier and go faster. Then let the fun begin. I miss those days.
