Default 88 code 36

Now that I have the idle problem fixed (O2 sensor), I am still getting a code 36 which isa MAF burn-off circuit issue. What is the process of determining theproblem here? I understand there are a couple of relays that can go bad. Where are the located and how do I check them? Can it be a bad MAF sensor? Any help you can offer troubleshooting would be great. Thanks again!

Get someone with ALLDATA, or Mitchell's online, to print out diagnostic procedure for you. Offer a few bucks if necessary.

Then turn on the multimeter, and get testing!!!

Either your burn off relay is bad or the 12v supply to it is.

I think there's a 'tap test' for MAF burn-off module in the article somewhere...

Can you tell me where the burn off relay is located on an 88? I see lots of the same kind of relays under the hood. There are two right behind the battery and one up on the firewall just to the left (dirvers side) of the dist. From what I have read in other posts it is probably one of those three, but how do I tell?

Did the article not say where the relay is?

Nope, but a great article to have on hand. I printed it out and will keep itfor future reference. I did find some info in a previous post that helped me by identifying the colors of wires that went to the relay. It was one of the relays right behind the battery. It was the one on the passenger's side, in my case, with two orange, one black and one blue wire. I took it off and cleaned the connections and put it back together and it works. I hear the relay click on and off again about 2 seconds after the engine it shut off. I checked and I am getting 12V to the blue wire at the MAF sensor when it does that and most importantly I'm not getting code 36 any more! No more service engine soon light!!! Thanks again for all your help!
