Default '89 engine dieing (help)

The last 3 or 4 time driving, the engine would die (like it is out of gas) and it would be hard to get it started again. I just added cert. gas treatment to gasoline and it ran for about 10- 15 minutes and died. It would not start so I waited about 30 minutes and it cranked back up and died 5 minutes later (vette resting now) I don't trust it to drive right now. It also has a rattle in front of engine that kinda sounds like a pully but I just don't know. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated! Thanks! Mike

Sounds like fuel pump. Need to check your fuel pressure.

I had a new fuel pump put in the tank about a year ago for about a grand. If I thought it would make it back to that same garage that put in pump, I would take it back to them. But if fuel pump was bad would it continue to crack and run for short periods?Maybe, I can put fuel filter in, if it is not in tank and I can find it. Any other thoughts? It is like itonly has gas to run for a couple of minutes and then dies no matter how hard I try to keep it running. Thanks!! Mike

Someone charged you a grand to put in a fuel pump? You got took. It takes about 45 minutes to put a $100.00 pump in. Again, need to check fuel pressure readings when car stalls.

Today, with the turn of the switch and no gas pedal it cranked right up, ran about 5 minutes and died, hit switch again, ran, died, switch, ran, died maybe ten times then when I try to give it gas even all the way to floor it would just die. I maybe thinking to much but that rattle I heard in the front of engine my neighbor said sounds like a main. So, today my mind says my engine is shot. Anybody got any thoughts on this? Maybe I should just sell it and cut my losses. Any suggestions? Mike

The vette has about 150,000 miles. New fuel pump, fuel screen, and fuel setting unit in tank. Body in good shape with only missing driver side reflector on front fender. Burgandy color with paint in pretty good shape except on rear end which is different material (like rubber), a little faded. Nice wide tires with factory rims I believe. Interior in ok shape also. What kind of price should I ask for it. I would be honest with the people and tell them I don't know why it will not stay running. HELP!! Mike
PS I don't have the funds to invest in car right now and really probably need money more than to spend money. Is 4,500. to much OBO?

Check fuel pressure, and check for vacuum leaks. Costs nothing. Read this article too:
https://www.corvetteforums.com/m_37283/tm.htm

What is the name of the shop that charged $1,000 for a fuel pump replacement?

Vacuum leak test:
Loping idle is vacuum leak. 30 year old lawnmower, or a new car on the lot. If it sucks air where it ain't supposed to, it lopes.

Brick on pedal, block TB arm, anything to get a STEADY idle. 1200rpms or so... Feed starting fluid spray, A LITTLE AT A TIME, EVERYWHERE. Rev increase is the leak.

In a tough spot to pinpoint? Light a book of matches, blow it out while the heads are burnin', and feed the smoke to the leak.
