Default 91 Passenger Window Regulator

Passenger window doesn't work with either switch. Checked the fuse of course and it's good, so I'm assuming the motor is out on the regulator. I'm looking at a couple used ones on eBay but was wondering if anyone knew what years were interchangeable. There are a couple out there for sale.......

The window motor can be purchased at about any auto supply rebuilt by A-1 or A/C Delco makes new ones. Not very expensive, but a pain to put in. Done several. [8D]

Bought a rebuilt window motor, pulled the door apart and pulled the regulator out. You are correct, a real pain so far! I hooked the new motor up to the electrics to test it and all works fine, now I need to remove the old one from the regulator and have 2 problems.

1. I connected the old motor and regulator to the electrical connections just to see. I could hear a low click in the motor when pressing the window button - so I'm guessing it's actually the regulator that's stuck, not a bad motor.....

2. The window was in fully rolled down position so the regulator is blocking 2 of the allen connectors that hold the motor in place. Any tips on manually moving the regulator to a halfway rolled up position so I can get an allen in there?

Thanks

I think what you are hearing is the motor because the brushes are on a burnt spot on the armature. Are you sure those are allens, not rivets? GM usually rivets motors in so they will not vibrate loose over time. You might have to try and remove inner panel to gain access, although, as I said, a real PITA. Good luck. [8D]

Hi mech, thanks for the reply.

I have the regulator/motor assembly completely out of the door sitting on the floor of my garage. They're definitely allen bolts with lock nuts on them so the motor must have been replaced once before. The directions I have for the motor I just bought say to drill the rivets out and replace with the included hardware so I think it's safe to say the one that I just pulled from the car has already been replaced.

I can't get the regulator arm to budge an millimeter, so can I safely assume that it's a stuck regulator or is it not moving because the motor is burnt and the gears are working against each other holding the regulator in place? I'm not sure if the regulator arm should move freely while the motor is attached or not.....

I'm thinking of just trying to cut or drill those allen bolts off... I can replace with the replacement screws I got with my rebuilt motor. I'm guessing that with the motor removed, the regulator should move freely?

Thanks for the help!

Well, I'm on my 3rd motor for this window and still having problems. I've connected the motors without re-attaching the regulator and each time the gear would move when I press "down" on the window button, but won't go "up". I think it's safe to say that I have a problem other than 3 defective motors.

Any tips on what kind of problem I could be facing here? This is getting real frustrating - I would hate to have to pay someone to finish this job, I've already done the hard part!

Please help!

Thanks

Must be the switch in the console. The switch is double polarized, by that I mean that it furnishes ground and power for one direction and then flips them for the other. I think you have a bad switch. [8D]

Man, this thing is killing me. I'll see if I can find a new switch. Unfortunately, if this is the case, the switch on the driver's side is bad too. Neither one will get the motor to go "up" - only down.

Thanks Mech - you da man!
