Hello everyone, I am new to the site and recently bought a 94 Targa top coupe LT1 with automatic. The car smogged about 400 mi ago with no problem. Just a few days ago the SES lite came on along with the main cooling fan. While trying to find a way to retrieve any stored code I found a OBD II style 16 pin test port but a OBD I system... Wanting to try anything that might help I removed the ECM , PCM whatever completely and cleaned all contacts then reinstalled. At the same time I removed the battery, and all fuses from both sources under the hood and cleaned everything (a lot of corrosion) I then removed and cleaned the chassis ground before reinstalling the battery. NO improvement. SES still lit and fan still running when I started the car. Looking for help I went to our local smog shop hopping for a code scan but to no avail. He said the 16 pin plug doesn't go with the OBD I system. He plugged a OBD II Snap On tester to the plug but no communication.
Anyone have any experience with what I have described or suggestions? Thanks in advance for any help anyone might offer. Greg

I am thinking of trying a hand help tuner. Anyone try using one on a '94?

 

Short pins 4 & 12 and you can read the codes. Terminals are numbered from top left to right, then second row from left to right. #4 is above #12.
