Default Air Conditioning headaches

A while back my A/c stopped working on the top vents only on my '96 C4 LT-1. It works when on the top and bottom vents button is pressed but when top only is selected the A/C stops and the air still comes out from the top and bottom vents. The electronic air control unit buttons were sticking so I replaced the unit just to be back where I was. Also the green light flashes from time to time so I recharged the system. Used to be that I could hit the " auto " button and it would do everything itself; now I have to manually select the fan speed for it to work. I would greatly appreciate any help on this matter as I am on the verge of pulling out my hair.

Thx a bunch. I've read alot of probs as well as alot of solutions or possible solutions that I will try. However since everytime I turn off the ignition ( let's say to go inside a store or so forth ) the A/C will always return to the " auto " position at 75 degrees. I think it is the ECM and will probobly try this first. Thanks for your input and have a great day. Robert

good luck with your issues, and if you get a chance, once you have discovered your problem, maybe let us know what was the cause? so that future owners with a similar problem will have your advise as well?

This also happened to me on my 95. There is a two way check valve underneathe the passenger side engine cover. I bet yours is all dried up and rotten, full of holes, etc. Also, does your cruise control work? Mine didn't when I had this problem. I went to autozone and bought a replacement check valve for 4 dollars, installed it in less than 5 minutes, now my a/c works great and cruise control is fully functional.

Thanks for your feedback but two weeks ago I saw a '02 convertible at a dealership and decided to toy with the idea of owning a C5 and a week later I became the owner. I truly appreciate your help int this matter and wish you the best with any problems you may have.

Thanks a bunch.

Robert
