Default Antenna Replacement

Hello! It's me Again!!

My husband needs to replace his antenna on his '95.

The motor still works. We can get a repair kit for about $20.

Has anyone had to do this? Is it pretty easy?

Thanks in advance,
Michelle

Hey Michelle,
I replaced my antenna, motor and mast, on my 86 and it was a real pain. Sounds like all you need is the mast but I think you have to remove the motor / mast unit to replace the mast. Then reinstall the total unit. I had to remove the rear wheel, loosen the inner fender (wheel well) and lay on the ground, then basicly feel my way around inside the rear fender to remove the unit. Not an easy job, be prepared, although it is worth it. I like for everything to work on my car and not fixing little things like this is a sign of negligence to me.
Good Luck,
KN

Replacing the antenna mask does not alway fix the problem. I replaced mine but the gears in the motor were worn and would not pull the mask completely up or down all the way. Go to Ebay or Ecklers ( about $120.00)and find a Vette antenna motor and mask complete and install the complete unit. It is not difficult. A couple of bolts to remove from the motor. This is done by going uner the car, locate the antenna and fastners, remove and replace. The wire plug for the antenna is located under the rear panel just under the rear window. Remove the panel, look about 12-18" in from the antenna mask under the insulation and unplug.

You can do it!

Or pay $150.00 at the dealer.

Thanks everyone.

We bought us a antenna repair kit ($40?) and fixed it ourselves.
We didn't need to tear down the whole thing so it only took about 15 minutes.
Lucky Us!!!

Happy Driving,
Michelle

Michelle, Details, details!!?? So far so good I haven't had to replace mine but I'm sure someday......... Did it come with instuctions? You said it only took 15 minutes? Sounds like it was pretty simple. Where did you get the repair kit? Was if OEM or aftermarket? If you could, please give some details of the repair.

Thanks
