Default Battery Light

Seems like my hood is up more than the pedal is down. I have a 90 Roadster that I purchase last November. It has about 97,000. A week ago it gave me trouble starting after having my reconditioned wheels installed (figuered they left somthing on). Just wouldn't turn over. I got a jump and all seemed well (new battery several months ago). Then it gave me trouble again when I got home. Jumped it and it went in the garage. Took it for a spin and it died again. Tried jumping it to no avail. During all of this the starter would click. Well I replaced the starter and vrooooom... Took it for a fuel ride and now the freaking battery indicator light is on. The voltage guage shows about 10-11 volts, not quite sure it's hitting 12. Brought it home and the battery was at 60%. Charged it all night to 100% this morning. Checked the battery connections and off for another test ride tonight (which lately seems to be it's only rides) . The battery light is still on, the guage seems to creep down from 10-12 volts. After 10 miles or so I gargaed it and the battery is at 55%. I don't think when I changed the starter that anything unusual happened. Two bolts, three wires (two on one lug and one small one on another) and that was it. I did have the altenator check a few months ago when I had the battery issue (pulled the altenator and had it tested). So now I'm wondering is it just the timing and I have a bad altenator or are there any other issues related here going on. Hate the be a pain asking so many question but this car has sure been one heck of a learning experence.

I certainly ain't no mechanic like some of the guys here, but this does resemble the symptoms of a bad alternator. Sorry to hear of all your grief with the 'Vette there!! I'd have that alternator tested again before digging in any deeper, myself.....

She's running again... Pulled the altenator tonight and had my son who works at the local auto part store test it.... It was fried. He got me a rebuilt for $57. Installed it and all seems fine... Wierd how the starter and altenator go together. Hope nothing else crops up...

I've had bad alternators, brand-new, right outta the box before, so this doesn't surprise me at all. Glad to hear she's rollin' again! Also, watch out for the rebuilt jobs... I've had problems before where they don't put out the full amperage as specified... caused a few headaches (on another car, not our 'Vette).... so, if you have any further electrical problems, I'd check there first.

But, with that being said, you won't have any more problems hopefully!! Happy motorin'!

TS is right...

Alternators that are rebuilds tend to be very poorly put together in my experience. Worth the price though

The hoods up again and grrrrrrr. Took the vette to the mechanic to set up an appointment for my explorer (engine service light issue). Out I come and again she doesnt start. Just clicking again at the starter. I've replaced the starter and alternator recently. My thirty year dream of owning a Corvette and finally getting one lately seems like a nightmare. Wondering lately if I should have left it as a dream...... []

Just got my car back and the mechanic said that I had a loose positive cable. As I drove it back I noticed that the voltage was low again. Then on again comes the battery light. This is what happened before I put the new starter and alternator in. I'm back to square one again. Any thoughts on where and what to check now????? The car is on charge here at the station (I'm a firefighter) and not quite sure what to do next....
