C4 corvette engine knock
Hi, i have a 1985 corvette with 62000 miles on it. It has been knocking for a long time and i have not driven it since 2005, other than the occasional 30 min drive 3 times a year. I start it up here and there. When first started it sounds like a cement mixer. Its that bad. It will go away for a little bit and then come back. It will get to the point when it will sometimes stall on start up. The knock get quieter as it warms up but is still there. It also knocks a little bit while driving. I am 15 years old and will be getting the car in a few months. My dad rebuilt the car many years ago. He told me to get info on what may be wrong. Now obviously it is going to need work, but does anyone know where to start? can it just be a simple main barring? Or can it be a much worse problem? I'm scared to drive it more than i do for the very rare and limited times I take it out with my dad because we are both scared to cease the engine.. PLEASE HELP!!! if you know anything that could be wrong, or where we should start. The engine seems like it will have to be pulled because it sounds like it is coming from the lower end, but would much rather get info first than taking it to a garage and paying a bunch. Thank you!!
