Hello, i am new the forum. I could really use some help. i have asked for help on Facebook groups too but my post never got approved.
My Auto Temp reached 260 on my way home and started losing power. I pulled over and let it cool down. I had to get it towed home because the car literally wouldn’t go past 20mph.
Is there any way to fix this? Is this ”limp mode”.
If i can resolve it, first thing i was told to do is upgrade the radiator to a 3 core aluminum radiator.
Please I would appreciate any advice.
Her are pics of the dash before it overheated and had to pull over soon as i saw it hit 260ish. (Noticed the guage isn’t working anymore)
Sounds like limp mode. Have you checked your coolant and belts? You may need to get a code reader to reset the computer.
If you are low on coolant then you probably have a leak.
Could be as simple as a thermostat going bad as well.
Welcome to the forums, sorry it has to be on such a sour note. Overheating is never good,it sometimes opens up a pandora`s box, lets hope not.Yes 20mph sounds like limp mode to get you off the road. Ok do you know why it overheated? Are you going to do the repairs yourself? Corvette radiators are only adequate, I use an aluminum summit radiator that has a wide 2 core (same as a 4 core) on 77 BB 180 degree trermostate never gets over 190 any time of the year.(clutch fan). It takes awhile to see what damage was done. I`m sure you will need to replace the thermostat, both temperature sensors (one for dash gauge and the other one for the ecm to be safe) Fix the overheat problem, and pressure test the cooling system for leaks, check oil color, change oil if needed . If the cooling system holds pressure you might be in good shape. If not it might need more work (gaskets machine work) lets hope not! start with that.Good Luck. keep us posted
Welcome to the forum.
Check to make sure all of the seals around the radiator are in place so that all the air has to go through the radiator. Also check to make sure there's no foreign material plugging up the front of the radiator which might be it between the A/C condenser and the radiator also.
Another possibility is that the radiator itself is becoming clogged with minerals or other foreign material internally. If so, it will need to be removed and rodded/flushed out.
Was the coolant level okay?
