Day 6 with my new '96
Well, I've had my new 1996 Corvette since Monday and I couldn't be a happier guy.
I replaced the belt, battery, flushed the cooling system, & installed new rear tires (Kumo 285/40-17 W).
Those Kumo tires are incredible, cost me $130 per, and ride 10 times better than the Z rated that were on the back prior (look pretty cool 2).
I'm looking into buying drilled & slotted rotors because she is in need of a brakejob, any suggestions that won't break the bank?
Coolant question: my mechanic swapped me over from Dextron (red stuff) to the green stuff. Has anyone heard of any problems running green?
Alternator seems to be making a slight noise, sounds like pully/bearing thing.
Also, how long do the timing chain & gears last in these motors? Should I just bite-the-bullet and replace them before I run into problems?
I going to take her on a 200 mi putt today in the hills and have some fun - Thanks all

Hey JS. I have also always used the green stuff. I actually never even heard of the red stuff until recently when someone asked me why i didnt use the red stuff lol. My alternator makes a weird noise too. A while back my power steering pump seized up on me and so it was putting strain on the other mechanical stuff in my engine was my assumption and ever since then it has sounded like the bearings were bad or something in the alternator. Regardless, when i have a few extra bucks lying around (haha - ok, a little more than a few), I am going to just go get a new one. As far as the timing chain and gears, I dont know how many miles your car has, but mine is creeping up on 100K and mine are still running strong. I jsut got my motor rebuilt and i wouldve replaced those had it not been, i think, about $500+ for the set. Those tires you bought are pretty good. I have the same ones on my rear end. Regarding this, slotted/drilled rotors can introduce minor headaches for you, the slots/holes get filled up with crap and cause problems sometimes. I'll leave the details to our experts here as I can't remember exactly the issue, but I thought I'd mention it in passing for your informational purposes.

Thanks all - So I guess I'll stick with the stock rotors after all.
And i guess i'll stick with the GREEN STUFF until someone changes my mind with hard evidence of damage???
