Default EMISSION FAILURE

I just purchased a 96 coupe with 18,000 miles on it. It did not pass the state emissions test and the service soon light came on. ANy suggestions? The vehicle has not run in three years. Should I purchase a new O2 sensor, add an additive or just drive it hard for a hundred or so miles to see if the light will go out. Any suggestions?

the first thing you should do is find out what code is being set instead of guessing about it. After you know what code is being set someone can tell you what to do

drain all the old gas out, replace the o2 sensor, and put a bottle of RXP in the tank. that stuff is awesome if you had high CO readings.

which part of the inspection did u fail?? there's different things u can do depending on which gas was high
