I am considering buying an 86 vette - the owner says it runs and is drivable but needs a tune up - when I ask what he means - he says the engine light is on - maybe O2 sensor..

I have mainly only had newer cars than 80s for a really long time - how does one read the fault codes from an 86 vette? I presume not with my ODB2 scanner..

 

One way is to get a reader for ODB1. Many of the ODBII readers have a cable to hook them up to ODBI connectors. I think you can jumper the connector but you'd need to find that info, maybe in the FSM.
