Get a custome chip burned for your car AFTER you have done some decent mods. Don't waste your money on a Hypertech chip or any other aftermarket, generic chip. If you must get one now, get a custom chip burned from someone like Alvn at PCMForLess.com.

Unlessyour wanting that car to turn more than 5800 RPM's then I wouldn't worry about the rev limiter. Also, if your just now thinking about a chip I figure the car is pretty much stock. That limiter is there for a reason and it sounds like you need it right now.

That rev limiter maybe holding you back some but if your going to spin it higher than the limiter you probably want to do the bottom end. I don't know how you are going to get around the limiter with an OBDI car.

You may need an aftermarket Opti. I have a 92 as well and I just bought an MSD opti that is 10,000 rpm capable. I'm not sure what the limits of the stock unit are.....

I'm with everybody else here. Don't re-write the computer's limiter.

If you ARE gonna' race, even then, get a dynomometer printout, to see what your motor is doin at 6K rpm. If HP, and torque curves have peaked by the time the twister hits 6k, there's no reason to even think about it.

If the curve is still goin' up at 6k, then maybe it would be the thing to do. Maybe.
