my 87 vette is my daily driver but im havin problems with my hood. The driver side latch is stuck closed and i have no idea how to fix it. I dont know how to get the hood open to even get to the latch. any coment would help im stuck cause i dont wanna drive it much till i can get that fixed. i dont wanna break down and then not be able to pop my hood either that would not be good at all.

 

it happened to me once. i would suggest driving around, and the vibrations should shake it loose. Im not gonna tell you how to fix it, because it still happens to me every now and then, so i obviously havent fixed the problem.

 

when you do get it open spray pb blaster (catalyst oil) into the latch mechanism and also try to get some into the metal sheating around the cable itself. this should rememdy the problem within several applications. ive also heard graphite spray works, but have not ever verified this for myself.

 

also try adjusting the cable tension by turning that long black screw right next to the latch.

my 84 did the same thing i had to manually removed the release handle and pull on the cables to get the hood open, then the problem was the latch system was gummed up and wouldn't respond a good light weight lubricant did the trick, the same thing happend on my jeep cherokee.
