Default Ignition Key Removal

I realize my questions must be silly and mundane. Is it standard that the transmission be in Reverse in order to remove the ignition key ('86 with the 4+3 manual)? 'Cause, that's the only way mine will come out.

I just found another post that indicates this is normal for the 4+3. Seems wierd to me but I'm glad to know there isn't anything wrong with my car.

Really, most all GM cars with manual trans have the reverse lock on the key. Even my 69 Camaro with a Muncie 4 speed has it from the factory. [8D]

Almost every GM car I have owned was an automatic - but as I recall, my '73 Vega GT had the reverse lock now that I think about it.
