Intake Manifold gasket replacement

RE: Intake Manifold gasket replacement
I replaced mine not too long ago. It was not that hard at all. The hardest part was finding someone that sold the gasket. The other problem was dealing with all those cheap plastic vaccum lines. On my 86, the least amount of pressure snapped them in half. But i was told that they sell vaccum hose kits, i wish i had known that when i had it all apart so i could have easily replaced them.

Be careful with the injectors and o rings. Lube them with some lithium grease before inserting back in manifold as there will be a vacuum leak if you don't.

Remember to mark everything so to ease in the reassembly of all the lines and plugs. The easiest way to mark is with small colored zip ties. red on red green on green black on black, two red on two red etc. I used permatex "THE RIGHT STUFF" on the front and back. It's a bit pricy but works exellent. On mine someone used red locktight on the bolts that hold the fuel lines to the front of the head. I had to heat it from inside the port to get the locktight to release. What a pain. Expect that alot of lock tight products may have been used .

Let me guess?...oil blowing out the back of the block? Replacing the gasket isn't that tough if you are mechanically inclined. Get yourself a Hanes manual and follow it. You'll need some long shaft Torx sockets to get at the bolts. You should be able to lift the upper plenum, runners and intake as a unit. Tag and bag everything as you go and if you have a digital camera, take lots of pics from different angles as you are working. Wouldn't believe how handy those pictures can be when you are putting things back together....Good luck.
