Nope, you need a shift kit installed. Once certain gears start to no allow you to enter, it means that several of the gear teeth are worn off and you would need to let idle of RPM before you can mess it in place. Get a shift kit, probably about $600, do it right though.

Boy, I don't know what all the fuss is about the "skip shift" and installing adapters or bypass kits, mine never comes on...just drive the 'vette the way it is supposed to be driven: wind out 1st gear and no problem....

My 92 has a skip shift relay near the ECM on the left side on the inner wheel well.
I disconnected the wire thet goes from the relay to the transmission and the skip shift does not work & there are no ECM faults or check engine lights.
I do not know if there would be a light if the relay were just disconnected.
It is not necesary to buy anything to disable this "feature"
