Default L98 Top Engine Refresh Success Story

Purchased this sweet '87 red convertible in September '21 and noticed a few issues with her. Initially, serious bog down and stalling with hesitation on low RPM acceleration. Disassembled the top of the engine. Left the heads in place as there was no indication the gaskets were bad. Found that the EGR valve was DOA. Also found an intake manifold gasket leak (oil and coolant). Had a machine shop hot tank and glass bead (where appropriate) the intake manifold, valve covers, plenum, and runners. I repainted with aluminum blast engine enamel, replaced all broken/brittle pigtails, re-loomed all harness runs, replaced all gaskets with Fel-Pro's, new Delphi injectors, resealed fuel rail plus new BBK AFPR, added MSD cap and wires, new plugs, replaced all bolts with ARP chromoly black oxides, and rebuilt the distributor with Pertronix Flame Thrower internals. To my shock and amazement, she fired right up after a month of downtime. Reset the timing and had a "spirited" Sunday afternoon cruise. Extremely rewarding climax to a long month of waiting for parts, inhaling enough paint and degreaser to rewire my brain, and screaming "10 more minutes" 100 times through the garage door. Sadly, its 40 degrees in NJ right now so the top stays up but she's in great shape for cutting through some crisp winter backroads. Suspension, tires, and exhaust next on the list.

It looks very nice and clean now. 👍 Glad that it's running right for you also. 😊
