Mobil 1 oil ok in spring?
I know there are different opinions about oil changes in spring. A reliable source tells me if you change oil just before storage (Mobil 1) and DO NOT start the car for the usual 3-4 month storage period that the oil is fine you can leave it in. I guess the synthetic thing has a lot to do with it. Can I get some opinions on this??

First, oil will not go "bad" while sitting,so if you don't run it,the oil will be fine. What kills oil is combustion by-products and moisture getting into it due to temperature changes resulting in condenstion. OIl changes in winter time should be time related normally 60 days, otherwise 5 or 6000 miles is normal for synthetics like Mobil 1.The additives in the oil are gradually consumed during normal use, more rapidly during severe weather. Also the molecule chains that grow during temperature rise are physically sheared by motor parts, causing a 5-30 oil to more closely resemble 5 than 30,not a good situation during high temp-high load operation. This is a very general littany on oil,but should help some?

I have been using Mobil 1 in several of my vehicles over the years. I am currently considering switchng over to AMS oil. Test results as compared to M1 look much better. I just got my '93 Corvette in Oct '08 and it has been in storage for winter and because I live in Michigan condensation can be a problem, so will change it and since I am going by what the previous owner has said about service on it, I will change oil in diff and trany also. I think there filters ar better also. I am considering becoming a dealer for there products. Check out there website.
