Hi grease monkey, it sounds like your trying to keep it simple with a gen 1 small block. All you'll need is battery cable to the starter, wire to the starter solenoid from the ignition key, one wire to the distributor if your using an older style HEI, one to three wires from the alternator, one wire for oil pressure, one wire for coolant temp. sensor.

Thanks mech, forgot about the tach. I imagine he'll have lots of bells and whistles going off from not having all the computer stuff hooked up but he can make the engine run.

40k, and the TPI is toast?

Only if the the block/heads have structure failure would I pull it. If the only problem was tune, and there's no head warp, block crack, then your gaskets/wiring/emissions hoses are the problem.

I betcha' a properly tuned TPI gets double the fuel mileage that a carbed BB Chevy...

The tranny is going to need some input from the engine management system, I think your gonna' have issues with anything associated with the ECM. Ya 'might be able to get some of the gages to work OK. This is out of my league, I'm not experienced enough on the EFI or digital equipment.
