New here, and a question about ZR1s.......
Hi, eveyone. I'm new to the forum and my name is Bob. I once owned an 85' and i am closing in quickly on getting my next Corvette. My question to the forum is this: I am really thinking hard about getting a 91-93 ZR1. I am researching this vehicle as much as possible. The competition would be a 93 40th anniversary limited. Now, i have recently spoken to a Corvette mechanic and told him the same things that i am now saying to the forum, and his opinion was that i should go for the 40th anniversary model. He thinks that the ZR1's are costly to fix, and that you don't lose much in the way of performance with the LT1 that is in the stock Vette.
So, if anybody would like to give me their experiences and input with these 2 models, i would greatly appreciate it.

You mechanic is absolutely right. In my mind it is not even a close contest. Assuming you want to drive the vette a lot and enjoy the ownership experience, by the '94. If you really worry about the performance difference (which is not that substantial, given the propensity many ZR-1 have to never hold their tuning well), spend a couple of thousand on headers, cold air, and maybe high-ratio rocker arms for the 94.

If money were no object,I would go with the ZR-1.However,this is a more exotic engine that not too many people might be familiar with, let aloneknow how to fix potential problems. Are you looking at a low-mileage ZR-1?Are there any service records with it?Is it worth the extra money to you?I know the ZR-1's are wicked fast(182mph stock, per Motor Trend),but the LT-1's like my '96 are almost as fast, and are a lot simpler to work on.All in all,it will be your call.Either one will make you happy,I'm sure.Good luck in your hunt and let us here at the forum know how it goes, will ya?
