Default opti-spark problem?

Last fall the car missed on occassion during acceleration. Well, after getting it out of hibernation, I took it out forthe first time yesterday. It ran OK until I stepped on the throttle (about 1/3 down) and it kind of bogged down and had no power. When I let off the gas it ran OK again. I'm thinking the distributor is going bad so I sent for a new one and a new water pump. Does anyone know a way to test the distributor to see if it is bad? I'm going worse case scenario here so if I replace the parts and that isn't the problem it won't hurt so bad to find the real problem (I hope). Also have a new in line fuel filter to put on. Any suggestions? Thanks for the help.

No 'Check Engine' light?

Find a speed shop to scan and log the datastream, and print it out for you. That will almost certainly show problems that the computer hasn't yet called 'faults', cause they're still within spec range.
