Default Power antenna

Ok guys, someone please help out an idiot. I have 1989. It has the antena on back left fender. Is it supose to go up and down when radio power is turned on ? If so I have a problem because it doesnt. Next question, if it should go up and down but doesnt, how hard is it to replace ? Any aftermarket part for this ? Thanks

When the radio is on, it should stay up. This is just some advice. DITCH THE ANTENNA!!!! They have shorty anteenas that go on C5s also for our C4s. They are much more dependable and I personally think they look well with the vette.I just wishh I had the extra $$ coming in. If I find one in a good deal I will let you know. It is not a easy task replacing the motor and ribbion in your power antena and not cheap IMO. You can find prices at www.ecklers.com Good luck.

Had the same problem with mine. Purchased a $25 repair kit from eklers and fixed it in less than 10 minutes. The repair kit just has the shaft, and new gear ribbon. All repair is done from the outside buy just removing the lock nut. Didn't know if this will fix yours but its a less expensive gamble.
good luck

I had the same problem three years ago in my 87 Vette conv't. Convertibles are supposedly more complicated when it comes to replacing the antenna. My antenna would'nt go up and down, just "hummed" when I turned the radio on. I took a can of WD-40 and aimed the nozzle onto the antenna fixture and sprayed the hell out of it. I waited 10 minutes, and then turned on the radio and lo and behold, it came out of the fender. I have had no problems since, although I do give it a small spray of WD-40 before I put it away for the Winter. TRy this; I hope it helps you.
